April 2002 Survey Trip

In the streets

One thing that you immediately notice in Maceio is that there are always many people out and about.
On a Saturday night we stopped the car near a public square where a group of young people were playing soccer. I got out of the car, walked over, stood between the goal posts, called them over and asked them to put the ball down for a while because I wanted to ask them a question. Another group came over to where I was - there were around 25 young men there, 23 of them were saved. Unfortunately there are no photos of that event.

A young couple trusted Christ and received a hard back whole Bible. They now need a church to grow in the Lord. Please wait while image is loading...

In the schools

A teenage girl who m we led to Christ asked us if we would go and visit her school. We didn't know if it would be possible but the following day we went to her school to see what we could do about it. We spoke to the principal who said we were more than welcome to return the following day and speak in the classrooms about Jesus. "These kids need the Bible" was her remark!! Amazingly this lady was not a born-again Christian.

The following day many many were saved as we preached the Gospel from classroom to classroom and gave invitations to trust Christ. Not without some opposition we returned to the school the second day and a mysterious teacher strike closed down that school for the day. So we went and tried another school that had no strike and we saw even more people saved.

In fact in the second school the principal asked me to speak to a crowd of about 100 parents who were waiting for a teacher/parent meeting to begin. I stood on the platform and preached the Gospel to them all - well over 50 trusted Christ for Heaven. When I got off the platform they even clapped!!

In both schools we visited we went into the classrooms for about 30-35 minutes, preached the Gospel and had an invitation. Those who trusted Jesus were asked to raise their hands. In one class all 31 hands went up - including the teacher's. In fact in most classes the teacher not only stayed to listen but was saved too.

This is an improvised after school preaching service. Many of the children received Christ.

A typical classroom where we were able to preach the Gospel. Usually the majority accepted Christ including the teachers.

Everywhere

The people in Maceio are incredibly open to the Gospel.

Many times we were not in the "soul winning mode" but opportunities appeared all the time. I had the privilege of leading people to Christ in a drugstore, a museum reception counter, outside a supermarket while waiting for my wife, while out taking pictures...

Often after being saved the people would either ask us to speak to their loved ones or would go and fetch them so we could deal with them. Sadly there were many who we did not get to see.
