About Maceio
The city of Maceio is over 200 sq/miles. It is
the capital of the state of Alagoas which is located in the northeastern part of Brazil. Alagoas is one of the smallest of the 27 states in Brazil.
The population is over 1.2 million in the Greater Maceio area. Maceio has the highest population density in Brazil
according to the recent government census.
To the north is the state of Pernambuco. Recife the capital has
a population of well over 3 million and is around 4 hours drive away.
To the south is the state of Sergipe. Aracaju the capital has a
population of around 600,000 and is 3 hours drive away.
There is much religion in Brazil. There are many churches, but
very few, if any, are preaching the Gospel and actively seeking to lead people to Christ. Most
"churches" are either non-Biblical in doctrine or formalistic. Although the Roman Catholic church
has lost much of its grip over the people, it is still very evident. The cults have a very notable presence also
especially the Mormons, JW and 7th Day Adventists.
